Media Hide Anti-ICE Motive Behind Latest Act Of Leftist Violence

A violent incident occurred outside a manhattan federal building housing Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) offices, where a 43-year-old leftist rioter allegedly set fires and conducted a deadly attack with fireworks, pellet guns, knives, axes, and a machete. The suspect,Andrew Arrabaca,a former U.S.Army Patriot missile systems mechanic, reportedly arrived armed with incendiary devices and expressed anti-ICE sentiments. Authorities described him as an anti-American, anti-government extremist motivated by opposition to federal immigration enforcement.

However, media outlets such as Pix 11, NBC News, and CBS News downplayed or omitted the anti-ICE political motive in their headlines and initial reports, focusing instead on the basic facts of fireworks and arson without emphasizing the suspect’s ideological motivation. This withholding of crucial context appears purposeful, aimed at minimizing the political violence linked to anti-ICE extremism and framing the incident as an isolated act rather than part of a dangerous trend of left-wing political violence. The coverage suggests an intent to downplay the incident’s ideological meaning in the broader debate over immigration enforcement and political extremism.

In the latest example of anti-ICE violent extremism, a 43-year-old leftist rioter allegedly set a fire outside a federal building in Manhattan that houses offices for Immigration and Customs Enforcement and federal immigration courts. The suspect reportedly also set off fireworks in the Monday attack and had multiple pellet guns, a machete, three knives, and two axes. But you wouldn’t necessarily know that this violent attack was motivated by anti-ICE sentiment if you happened to skim some of the headlines from the propaganda press.

Andrew Arrabaca is a former U.S. Army Patriot missile systems mechanic, and according to Fox 5, he came to the federal building “armed with six incendiary devices, commercial-grade fireworks, a bucket of suspected gasoline, two axes, a hammer, a machete, three knives and airsoft pellet guns/rifles.” Video captured an individual alleged to be Arrabac pouring liquid outside the entrance to the building Monday morning before setting off fireworks to ignite flames in an attack authorities say was “driven by opposition to federal immigration enforcement.”

“He came armed with bad intentions, looking to injure people and harm people,” Assistant Director in Charge of the FBI’s New York Field Office James Barnacle said, according to Fox 5. “He is an anti-American, anti-government extremist. We know that from what he said post-arrest, and we know that from the actions he tried to take.”

This is all crucial context to the attack, yet the propaganda press purposely obfuscated these details.

Pix 11’s Mira Wassef and James Ford headlined their piece: “Armed man accused of setting off fireworks outside 26 Federal Plaza in NYC: FBI.” The “reporters” did acknowledge the anti-ICE motive in the lede, writing, “An armed man with an anti-ICE agenda was arrested for allegedly setting off fireworks near a federal immigration building in Lower Manhattan Monday morning, authorities said.”

But if Pix 11 knew enough to identify the suspect’s anti-ICE agenda in the first sentence of its story, there was no justification for omitting it from the headline (especially when the motive is central to understanding the attack) — unless of course the outlet wanted to downplay anti-ICE violence because it would hurt the left’s crusade to end immigration enforcement.

NBC News’ Jonathan Dienst, Tom Winter, and Jennifer Millman similarly glossed over the very crucial detail that the suspect is an anti-ICE radical, heading their piece: “‘Incendiary device’ deployed outside NYC federal building, FBI says.”

Like Pix 11, NBC News acknowledged the political motive immediately, leading with: “A possible anti-ICE activist deployed an ‘incendiary device’ outside 26 Federal Plaza on Foley Square in New York City on Monday, injuring two people as smoke spewed into the air, according to the head of the FBI and law enforcement sources.”

Even (generously) accepting NBC’s hedged description of Arrabaca as “a possible anti-ICE activist,” that detail belonged in the headline. Omitting it purposely reduced an apparent act of political violence to a context-free incident.

CBS News’ Alexa Herrera, Alice Gainer, Anna Schecter, and Richard Esposito headlined their piece: “Army veteran arrested for setting off fireworks, igniting fire outside federal building in NYC, FBI says.” The article waits nine paragraphs to say the suspect was an “anti-ICE activist who had a small cart with him with the slogan ‘ICE off our streets’ written on it.”

This was not merely an incident where a firework was set off outside a federal building. It was another apparent act of political violence by an anti-ICE extremist who showed up with the intent to hurt people. Burying or omitting that motive is deliberate and an attempt to let yet another act of left-wing political violence be treated as an isolated incident rather than part of a growing and dangerous trend.
