Prominent Doctor, Boston College Parent Leads Petition Against University Booster Mandate

In response to Boston College’s (BC) new COVID-19 vaccine requirement, mandating that all students receive a COVID-19 booster shot by February 9, 2022, Dr. Hooman Noorchashm M.D., Ph.D., has created a petition, demanding that the Catholic college recognize natural immunity and individuals who have received the previously mandate dosage of COVID-19 vaccines. Noorchashm, whose daughter attends BC, has garnered nearly 700 signatories comprised of students, parents, faculty, and alumni.

In the letter addressed to BC president Fr. William Leahy, Noorchsam writes that those who signed the letter “have very serious safety concerns about the recent vaccine booster mandate at Boston College.”

“It’s clear that the College’s administration has not exercised sufficient circumspection in creating clearly delineated medically rational ‘off-ramps’ from the booster mandates for those who are already well immune to COVID-19,” the petition states. “It is a serious problem that a medically unnecessary third booster shot could prove dangerous and irreparably harmful in such already well immune individuals.”

To rectify the situation, Noorchashm asks that BC allows four exemptions from the mandate. The petition argues that individuals who have received the J&J shot or two doses of the available mRNA shots should be exempt, as well those who have had a prior infection or breakthrough infections.

The petition notes that Dr. Anthony Fauci has labeled individuals who had COVID-19 and then received the COVID-19 vaccine or tested positive for the virus after vaccination as “bullet proof” with “hybrid immunity.” Studies have also backed up these claims by Noorchashm that individuals meeting the categories described have “hybrid immunity.”

The petition also asks that the booster not be mandated for individuals “whom a licensed physician has ordered a personalized serological evaluation and attests that robust and protective COVID-19 immunity is already present.”

Noorchashm, who has an undergraduate, graduate, and medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania and who currently serves as a physician, immunologist, and public health advocate, states that requiring the booster could have severe medical implications for the aforementioned categories:

Boston College is among the many elite Universities and Colleges now mandating an indiscriminate COVID-19 “booster” vaccine for all, in their communities. The serious trouble is that a substantial number of people in these academic institutions are already vaccinated young and otherwise healthy individuals, who carry powerful “hybrid immunity” from a prior or recent COVID-19 infection. Re-vaccinating these very robustly immune individuals, by administrative mandate is a dangerous medical and ethical proposition — because it is medically unnecessary and risks clinical harm.

“We know that your intent in imposing a booster vaccine mandate at Boston College is to protect the community. However, in the rush to protect Boston College, we ask that you not lose sight of rational ethical reasoning — or of the very important principle of medical necessity,” the letter concludes.

According to the Boston College website, “the only exception to this booster requirement will be for those who previously obtained a University-approved religious or medical COVID-19 vaccination exemption and have not since been fully vaccinated.”
