Joe Hill, a Democratic political operative, shared a touching story about Herron’s kindness and dedication to his friends. Hill recalled a time when Herron traveled 140 miles to see him after one of Hill’s children was in a car accident. “My wife, Susan, was freezing in the cold hospital waiting room, and Roy gave her his shirt so she could be warm. That’s the kind of genuine human being he was,” Hill said.

In 2021, following a tornado that struck his hometown of Dresden, Herron led a successful fundraising effort that collected over $100,000.
“It’s an overused term — that he was a dedicated public servant — but that really was Roy,” said former Democratic Rep. John Tanner of Tennessee. “He worked tirelessly for causes that he took up, and he had a good heart.”
The loss of Roy Herron is deeply felt by the Tennessee Democratic Party and the community as a whole. His legacy as a statesman and public servant will be remembered for years to come.
