Prince Harry Claims His Father, Prince Charles, Made Him ‘Suffer’ As Member Of Royal Family

Prince Harry slammed his father, Prince Charles, and the rest of the royal family in another interview with Oprah Winfrey that aired on Thursday.

The prince and Winfrey have partnered together to produce a new Apple TV+ show about the hidden lives of celebrities and other well-known figures called “The Me You Can’t See.” Prince Harry appeared himself on the show weeks after he and his wife, Meghan Markle, vented about their lives in the royal family and their decision to leave in an interview with Winfrey.

In his latest interview, Harry said his father made him “suffer” as a royal and blamed his family for his feeling “trapped” as a member of the family.

“My father used to say to me when I was younger … ‘Well, it was like that for me, so it’s going to be like that for you,’” Prince Harry said, according to Page Six. “That doesn’t make sense — just because you suffered, that doesn’t mean that your kids have to suffer, in fact quite the opposite. If you suffered, do everything you can to make sure that whatever negative experiences that you had, you can make it right for your kids.”

“Isn’t this all about breaking the cycle?” he asked. “Isn’t this all about making sure that history doesn’t repeat itself?”

Prince Harry said that he felt “trapped” as a royal and eventually forced his family to accept his decision to leave after Markle began to have suicidal thoughts.

“That feeling of being trapped within the family, there was no option to leave,” Prince Harry told Winfrey, according to Page Six. “Eventually when I made that decision for my family, I was still told, ‘You can’t do this.’ And it’s like, ‘Well, how bad does it have to get until I am allowed to do this?’ [Markle] was going to end her life. It shouldn’t have to get to that.”

“It’s incredibly triggering to potentially lose another woman in my life. Like the list is growing, and it all comes back to the same people, the same business model — the same industry,” Harry said, referring to the death of his mother, Princess Diana.

In their earlier interview with Winfrey, Prince Harry and Markle claimed that the palace had declined to allow Markle to see a therapist. In his Thursday interview, Prince Harry said he has been going to therapy for over four years, according to the Los Angeles Times, which overlaps with the time that he and Markle claim that she was blocked from going.

Since leaving the royal family, Prince Harry has continued to do a string of media interviews slamming his family as well as giving his opinions on a variety of other subjects. In a recent podcast interview with actor Dax Shepard, Prince Harry called the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution “bonkers” for protecting free speech.

“I’ve got so much I want to say about the First Amendment as I sort of understand it, but it is bonkers,” Harry told Shepard. “I don’t want to start going down the First Amendment route because that’s a huge subject and one which I don’t understand because I’ve only been here a short time. But, you can find a loophole in anything. You can capitalize or exploit what’s not said rather than uphold what is said.”
