‘Pray For Our Brother’: Pastors Rally Around Covenant Senior Minister Whose Daughter Was Slain In Nashville Shooting

Following the tragic shooting that occurred on Monday at The Covenant School in Nashville, Tennessee, ministers, seminaries, and denominations from all over the United States have been offering their support and prayers for Covenant Presbyterian Church, its senior minister, Chad Scruggs, and his family. Scruggs lost his nine-year-old daughter, Hallie Scruggs, in the shooting, along with two other nine-year-old children and three adult staff members from the school.

The shooter, a 28-year-old woman, identified as a man and executed a “targeted attack” at the school, which is affiliated with the conservative evangelical congregation and Presbyterian Church in America.

In the aftermath of the incident, Woodmont Baptist Church, a nearby Southern Baptist congregation, became a refuge for parents who were waiting to be reunited with their children. The senior minister, Nathan Parker, and other staff members have been helping those in need.

Support from the Christian community has been overwhelming, with thousands of people taking to social media to offer their prayers for Scruggs and his family. Pastors from other churches have also spoken out, including Jon Payne of Christ Church Presbyterian in Charleston, South Carolina, who asked his friends to pray for Scruggs and his family.

Covenant Seminary, the flagship school of the Presbyterian Church in America and Scrugg’s alma mater, and Westminster Theological Seminary in Philadelphia have both called for prayers on behalf of those affected by the tragedy.

The Covenant School’s website states that its aim is to help children follow the will of God and think in accordance with timeless truth.
