Portland Police Delayed Release of Details of Brutal Murder Because Suspect Is Transgender

Portland police delayed releasing details about the murder of a cab driver on Easter Sunday because the suspect is a transgender individual, claims journalist Andy Ngo.

Officers found the cab driver dead after responding to a stabbing near Southeast Washington Street and Water Avenue. The suspect, 30-year-old Moses Lopez of Portland, was arrested at the scene and has been charged with second-degree murder and unlawful use of a weapon. Lopez is transgender.

The victim was a long-time employee of Radio City Cab with an impeccable record.

Ngo finds it suspicious that little information was provided in the press release about the apprehended suspect, and it was only on Monday afternoon that Portland Police Bureau identified the attacker.

It is disconcerting that Lopez was released without bail previously, even after he was booked for threatening someone with a weapon. Lopez was also fired from working as a certified nursing assistant for engaging in threatening behavior.

Portland police have yet to confirm if Lopez is transgender. This comes weeks after the devastating Nahsivilel shooting, carried out by a trans individual, claimed six lives.

CBS News executives sent out a memo last month, telling staff to refrain from mentioning the shooter’s gender identity, which police admitted was a motivating factor in the case. The memo said: “CBS News has not confirmed the shooter’s gender identity. As such, we should avoid any mention of it as it has no known relevance to the crime. Should that change, we can and will revisit.”

It seems that law enforcement and the media are taking special care to protect the LGBTQ community.
