The end of an era has arrived. Popular pop-punk band Sum 41 has announced that they are breaking up after 27 years together. The band shared a statement on Twitter on Monday, revealing that they plan to complete their current tour and release their final album, “Heaven :x: Hell.” Afterward, they’ll go on one last worldwide headlining tour before parting ways.

“Being in Sum 41 since 1996 brought us some of the best moments of our lives,” the statement said. “We are forever grateful to our fans both old and new, who have supported us in every way. It is hard to articulate the love and respect we have for all of you and we wanted you to hear this from us first.”

The statement said the band was excited to see fans on the final tours and are furthermore “excited for what the future will bring for each of us.”

“Thank you for the last 27 years of Sum 41,” the statement concluded.

The Canadian punk band shot to popularity in 2001 with its debut studio album “All Killer No Filler.” It included the popular hit single “Fat Lip,” which spent 60 weeks on the Billboard charts, “In Too Deep,” and “Motivation.” All Killer No Filler was certified platinum in both the United States and the United Kingdom and went triple platinum in Canada.

Their songs made it onto soundtracks for movies of the era, including “Bring It On,” “American Pie 2,” and “Dude, Where’s My Car?”

Sum 41’s current members include frontman Deryck Whibley, co-lead guitarists Dave “Brownsound” Baksh and Tom Thacker, bassist Jason “Cone” McCaslin, and drummer Frank Zummo.

The band often performed more than 300 times yearly and is known for embarking on extended global tours, most lasting longer than a year. Sum 41 was nominated for a Grammy Award for best hard rock/metal performance for the song “Blood in My Eyes.”
