Poll: Americans Want Pro-Family Policies Inclduing Abortion Limits

A recent poll from Sen. Josh Hawley and Erin Hawley’s nonprofit Love Life Initiative reveals strong American support for family values and pro-life policies. Surveying 1,000 likely voters, the poll found that 60% see raising a family as essential to a meaningful life, with 88% valuing family formation personally. Many respondents expressed concern over the nation moving away from its Judeo-Christian roots, with 51% favoring a return to these values.A significant 80% supported banning abortion after a certain point in pregnancy unless the mother’s life is at risk. Additionally, 61% believe society emphasizes career success too much at the expense of family life, and 55% prioritize raising a family over career achievement.

The love Life Initiative aims to promote pro-family messaging as a long-term cultural effort. The survey also highlights criticism of recent federal expansions in access to abortion pills, linked to declines in family building. Respondents showed bipartisan concern over the safety and regulation of abortion drugs, with 64% opposing the FDA’s relaxed policies. Support for better economic and social support for pregnant women was high, with 84% advocating for alternatives to abortion like adoption and 65% believing pregnancy-related healthcare should be free for citizens. 77% want fewer abortions, and 51% oppose public funding for abortion. The initiative’s goal is to foster a culture that supports life and strengthens families nationwide.

Americans value building families and protecting life, but desire more policies that align with those views, according to polling from Sen. Josh Hawley and Erin Hawley’s new nonprofit Love Life Initiative.

The survey, conducted by OnMessage Inc. of 1,000 likely voters, found that 60 percent of those surveyed agree that having and raising a family is “essential to a meaningful life.” In fact, 88 percent believe that “family formation is important to them.”

The nation’s trend away from its Christian founding and towards abortion-for-all policies, however, appears to concern majorities of likely voters. Not only do 51 percent of respondents think the country would “be better off if we returned to the Judeo-Christian values that this country was founded on,” but 80 percent supported prohibiting abortion beyond “some point during pregnancy … unless the life of the mother is at risk.”

Approximately 61 percent of respondents agree that “in today’s culture, too much emphasis has been placed on career and economic success, and not enough on family life.” Despite that cultural influence, 55 percent of likely voters claimed “raising a family is more important to them than having a successful professional career.”

Widespread support for family and life is exactly why the Hawleys say they created Love Life Initiative. The nonprofit’s primary focus is on promoting national pro-family advertisement campaigns, but, according to the senator, its mission is “not just about the next election cycle.”

“We believe there needs to be a strong voice advocating for life and making it easier to start a family,” the senator said in a statement to The Federalist. “That is fundamental to who we are as Americans and the future of our country. And it is how we will be judged as a society. This is a generational project.”

If we don’t have a culture of life, we don’t have the United States of America

No Babies, No Families

There’s no denying that the rise of abortion, which was only enabled by the Biden administration’s radical mail-order mifepristone expansions, has played a key role in keeping people from building families.

Members of Congress, including Hawley, and pro-life organizations are pressuring the Trump-era U.S. Food and Drug Administration to reverse these rollbacks to better protect women and their babies. While FDA Commissioner Marty Makary confirmed a review of the dangerous drug responsible for a majority of the nation’s abortions is underway, his agency recently approved a generic version of the abortion pill for sale and distribution.

After pollsters informed respondents that a significant number of women have suffered life-threatening complications from downing abortion drugs, especially since safeguards such as an in-person doctor visit were removed, 64 percent “across party lines” took issue with the FDA’s relaxed approach to the pills. Approximately 54 percent of those surveyed left claiming that health and safety should be the FDA’s top priority when evaluating mifepristone.

Alliance Defending Freedom attorney Erin Hawley noted in her statement to The Federalist that “most women have an abortion because of a lack of support.”

“We want to change that. We want to build a culture that is pro-life and pro-family, and we can do that by providing broader support for women in need,” she added.

Overall, 84 percent of those surveyed agreed that “many pregnant mothers face difficult economic circumstances, but as a society we should focus on providing them with better options than abortion.” One such option, which approximately 74 percent of respondents supported, involved encouraging adoption as an alternative to abortion.

Another 65 percent said that pregnancy and birth-focused healthcare services “have become too expensive” and should be “free for U.S. citizens.” In total, 77 percent agreed, 58 percent of which strongly agreed, that “as a society, we should be working towards having as few abortions as possible.” Another 51 percent said “American tax dollars should never be used to fund abortions.”
