Denver Nuggets parade: Police officer undergoes leg surgery after injury.

The Officer Injured During the Denver Parade

The Denver parade to celebrate the Nuggets’ historic win took an unexpected turn when an officer was injured. Sgt. Justin Dodge, a member of the SWAT team, found himself in a dangerous situation as he walked alongside a Denver Fire Department engine carrying Nikola Jokic, his daughter, teammate Jamal Murray, and team owner Stan Kroenke.

Dodge had been focused on the enthusiastic fans clamoring around the fences set up on the parade path. As he stepped closer to the vehicle, it unexpectedly caught hold of his left leg, sending it under the wheels. The shocking incident was captured by a local reporter.

Surgery and Current Condition

Despite the pain, Dodge remained conscious and was swiftly transported to a hospital. There, he underwent surgery on his leg, according to Denver Police Chief Ron Thomas. Meanwhile, Jokic, Murray, Kroenke, and the others on top of the vehicle were escorted off.

Thomas revealed that Dodge’s limb is still in jeopardy, and the Denver Police Department confirmed that he remains in serious but stable condition. Remarkably, the police chief did not place blame on the paradegoers for the unfortunate injury.

A Dedicated Officer Doing His Job

Chief Thomas emphasized that the only safety challenge they faced during the parade was the officer’s injury. He commended Dodge for diligently protecting the public and expressed his regret that the officer was harmed in the process.

The parade itself was organized to celebrate the Nuggets’ remarkable achievement of winning their first-ever NBA Finals.
