Police in southern California have apprehended 29-year-old Mohammed Abdulkareem for the heinous crime of entering a dentistry practice and allegedly murdering a Jewish dentist, Dr. Benjamin Harouni, while also shooting two other individuals.
The tragic incident occurred at Dr. Harouni’s SmilePlus Dentistry practice just outside of San Diego. Two victims, a man and a woman, were also shot and are currently in serious but stable condition after being rushed to local hospitals.
Thanks to the vigilance of a concerned citizen, the El Cajon Police Department was able to locate Abdulkareem several hours later. He had fled the scene in a white U-Haul rental pickup truck.
“Abdulkareem was found to be armed with a loaded handgun and several loaded handgun magazines,” stated the police. It was later discovered that he had legally purchased the weapon just two weeks prior to the shooting.
Abdulkareem is now facing multiple felony charges, including one count of murder and two counts of attempted murder. He has been booked into the San Diego County Central Jail, with the possibility of additional charges being filed.
Chief of Police Mike Moulton expressed his condolences to the family and friends of the deceased victim and extended his gratitude to the law enforcement agencies involved in the investigation, including federal officials such as the FBI and U.S. Marshall’s Service Fugitive Task Force.
