Pence to blame ‘in many ways’ for Jan. 6 riot, Trump says

Pence had sought legal advice to determine if he could reject the certification unilaterally before Congress met Jan. 6, 2021 to confirm the results of 2020’s election. According to multiple witnesses, Trump was furious at Pence’s assertion that he did not have such power.

Trump also referred back to December’s new legislation, which clarifies the procedures for certifying Electoral College ballots. He argued that those changes prove Pence has the power to reject these results if he chooses.

“He had the right to send them back, otherwise they wouldn’t have changed the Voting Act. They all said, ‘He didn’t have any rights at all, he was a human conveyor belt, he had no rights even if it was fraud.’ And then the day after he did it, they said, ‘Now we’re going to change it so he doesn’t do it.’ Meaning, you understand that, meaning he had the right to do it,” Trump declared, According to The Washington Post.
