Pence says ‘history will hold’ Trump accountable for Jan. 6 in Gridiron speech

“The American people have a right to know what took place at the Capitol on January 6th,” He added the following words as he concluded his speech. “But make no mistake about it, what happened that day was a disgrace, and it mocks decency to portray it in any other way.”

Although Pence was being more critical of Trump in recent months, Saturday’s speech was his strongest condemnation of Trump since the collapse of their working relationship.

Pence avoided talking about the events between Trump and him, preferring to keep his distance until last year’s midterm elections. Sometimes their feud would resurface in the news cycle, when they would endorse opposing candidates for GOP prim.
