Pence insider takes aim at DeSantis as former vice president prepares 2024 run

A person close to former Vice President Mike Pence is taking aim at Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) as someone who “nobody really knows” as the Pence team explores a 2024 presidential run.
Pence has been hinting at a bid for the presidency for months, visiting Iowa and other key states recently, with an anonymous person close to the former vice president telling Politico why Pence has more to offer than other candidates.

The person, who the outlet said was not authorized by the budding campaign, claimed DeSantis is seen as a “combination of Ronald Reagan and Willie Nelson and Bono all wrapped up into one. But he’s everything to everybody right now because nobody really knows him.”
The anonymous person added that Pence “is almost on the flip side of that. Everybody thinks they know him. They think they have an expectation of who he is. And then when they meet them, they’re like, ‘That’s not what I was thinking. He’s funny. He’s personable. He’s nice.’”
DeSantis is seen as one of the front-runners for the 2024 presidential race, leading in several polls across various key states. He has not announced a 2024 bid but is expected to announce a run for the White House in late May or early June, once the state’s legislative session has concluded.
