Pelosi set to publish memoir recounting Jan. 6 events and attack on husband

Former Speaker Nancy ⁤Pelosi, D-CA, is⁣ set to release‍ her memoir “The Art of Power” in August through publisher Simon & Schuster. The book delves into her perspective on the Jan. 6 U.S. Capitol riot and the attack on her husband. Pelosi’s last book was in 2008, before ⁣her second ‍term as ‌speaker and the events of 2021. In ⁤the book, she shares insights on her leadership in the⁣ House and the reasons behind her actions. The title draws parallels to Donald Trump’s “The Art of the ⁢Deal” and Sun Tzu’s “The Art ‍of War.”

Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi’s (D-CA) memoir The Art of Power will be released in August by publisher Simon & Schuster, and will display her viewpoint of the Jan. 6 U.S. Capitol riot and the home invasion assault on her husband.

Pelosi hasn’t released a book since 2008, before her second and most of her first stint as speaker, and before rioters sought her out on Jan. 6, 2021, in the wake of the certification of the 2020 election.

“People always ask me how I did what I did in the House,” Pelosi, the first woman to become speaker, said in a statement. “In ‘The Art of Power,’ I reveal how — and more importantly, why.”

The title of the book appears similar to former President Donald Trump’s book The Art of the Deal and Chinese military strategist Sun Tzu’s famed The Art of War.

Pelosi says the book will offer a “personal account” of the events of Jan. 6 and the 2022 San Francisco home invasion assault of her husband, Paul Pelosi, while she was in Washington.

The 84-year-old relinquished her position as speaker to Republicans in January 2023, which has been tumultuous with one speaker forced out and another under fire. Pelosi served a total of eight years as speaker.

Pelosi has served as a member of the House since 1987, and currently represents California’s 11th District. She currently holds no leadership positions, but was a two-time speaker, House minority leader, and one-time Democratic whip.

Political leaders in Washington commonly publish memoirs; past Republican speakers John Boehner and Paul Ryan have also written books about their experiences.

Despite some seeing a book release as a move to cap off a career, the longtime Democratic leader has previously said she will seek reelection in 2024, dismissing speculation that she will retire.
