Patriots and Seahawks to sport ‘USA 250’ patches at Super Bowl

The New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks will wear “USA 250” patches on their jerseys during the Feb.8, 2026 Super Bowl in Santa Clara to mark the United States’ 250th anniversary. Seahawks QB Sam Darnold and Patriots QB Drake Maye were shown wearing the commemorative uniforms in team social posts. The game marks Seattle’s first Super Bowl trip since the 2015 loss to New England—remembered for the late-game play call that resulted in an interception—and the Patriots’ first appearance since their 2019 win; New England is now coached by Mike Vrabel with Maye at quarterback. The NFL has already incorporated “American 250” branding on sidelines, game balls, and coin tosses during late regular-season and playoff games as part of a larger America250 initiative created by Congress. The article also notes President Trump’s push for celebratory sporting events tied to the semiquincentennial, including a planned IndyCar race on the National Mall (authorized by executive order) and other high-profile events.

Patriots and Seahawks to sport ‘USA 250’ patches at Super Bowl for semiquincentennial

The 2026 Super Bowl teams will wear patches celebrating the United States’s 250th birthday on their jerseys during the game.

On Feb. 8, the New England Patriots and the Seattle Seahawks will wear uniforms with “USA 250” logos on the right chest.

Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold and Patriots quarterback Drake Maye were featured on their teams’ social media accounts, posing in uniform alongside other players.

The 2026 Super Bowl in Santa Clara, California, will be the Seahawks’s first Super Bowl appearance since 2015, when they lost to the Patriots. The game effectively ended with an infamous play call by then-Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll, who opted to have then-quarterback Russell Wilson throw the ball at the one-yard line instead of handing it off to running back Marshawn Lynch. Wilson’s throw was intercepted, sealing the game for the Patriots.

The Patriots last went to the Super Bowl in 2019, beating the Los Angeles Rams in the lowest-scoring Super Bowl ever. The Patriots were led by head coach Bill Belichick and quarterback Tom Brady at the time. Former Patriots player Mike Vrabel is now the team’s head coach, and Maye, an MVP candidate, is their signal caller.

The nod to the U.S.’s semiquincentennial at the milestone game is the NFL’s latest move to honor the country’s anniversary.

The league also added “American 250” markings on the sidelines, on game balls, and for coin tosses throughout Week 18 of the regular season and the playoffs. America250, the entity created by Congress to lead celebrations, is spearheading coordination with the NFL and other sports leagues to mark the semiquincentennial.

President Donald Trump has also pushed for a variety of sporting events to celebrate the anniversary, including a planned UFC fight at the White House and an IndyCar race in Washington, D.C., this summer.

The president signed an executive order on Friday detailing the race, which will be free to the public and take place on the National Mall from Aug. 21-23. Interior Secretary Doug Burgum and Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy have been tasked with developing the festivities, alongside Washington, D.C., Mayor Muriel Bowser.

“He loves sports,” Burgum said during the Oval Office signing. “I mean, to any American who loves sports, you ought to love this president, because he’s bringing professional sports to our capital.”
