Over 96K ‘Known Gotaways’ at US-Mexico Border Since October: Report

Record Number of Illegal Migrants Evade ⁣Law Enforcement at⁤ Southern Border

Nearly 100,000 illegal migrants have reportedly managed to slip past law ⁣enforcement ⁣at the southern border since October, ‍according to sources from Customs⁤ and Border ⁤Protection (CBP) ⁤ reported by Fox News.

This means that over ⁤800 people have successfully crossed⁣ the border every day, living undetected in the United States.

While the number of encountered migrants is even higher, with⁤ over 785,000 migrants being encountered ⁤since October⁤ 1, a record for the final months of a year.

In December alone, border authorities encountered more than ‍302,000 migrants, marking the⁢ highest monthly total ever.

These alarming numbers have sparked concern among lawmakers. Senator Tim Scott (R-SC) expressed his worries, stating, “We don’t know where these people are coming from, where they’re ‌going, what they’re carrying, or ‍if they’re terrorists.”

Senator Thom Tillis (R-NC) also voiced his ⁣concerns, stating,‍ “96,000 gotaways over the last⁤ four months and counting. Meanwhile, the Biden Admin continues⁤ to mass release apprehended illegals everyday. This is on Biden ⁤and ⁣Mayorkas, and they need ⁣to⁤ close the border and enforce our laws⁤ now.”

The border crisis has led to calls ‌for the impeachment of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. House Republicans ⁤accuse ‍him of disastrous border policies and ‌lying to lawmakers⁢ about having “operational control” of ⁢the border.

The House Homeland Security Committee is set to ‌vote on impeachment articles ‌against Mayorkas on Tuesday, although it is⁢ unlikely to ⁢pass in the Democrat-led Senate.

Recent polls have shown that immigration is now the top‌ concern among‌ voters, surpassing inflation.⁤ Approximately 35% of voters ‍consider immigration their main concern, while only⁤ 35% approve of⁢ President Biden’s handling of the⁣ issue.

Meanwhile, Texas has sent over ‍90,000 migrants to cities run by Democrats in ⁣an effort to alleviate⁢ the strain on‌ overwhelmed border communities. This has resulted ⁣in these cities spending millions ⁤of dollars to accommodate ⁣the newcomers.

What comprehensive and strategic measures can be taken to improve border security and immigration while considering humanitarian concerns and national security

The increasing number ⁢of illegal migrants crossing the ‍southern border has raised‍ concerns about border security and the safety of the American public. With such a large number⁤ of migrants evading detection, ‍there are valid worries about potential criminal activities, including drug⁢ trafficking and human smuggling.

According to the CBP sources, the majority of these “known gotaways” are⁣ individuals from Central American countries, such⁤ as Guatemala, Honduras, and ⁣El Salvador, seeking better economic opportunities or fleeing violence and instability in their home ⁣countries. Many of them are families and ‍unaccompanied minors, who often turn themselves in to border patrol agents after crossing the ‌border, seeking asylum or refugee status.

The challenges⁢ faced at the southern border are complex and multifaceted. Limited resources, a backlog of immigration cases, and the overwhelming number of migrants attempting to enter the United States contribute to the current situation. Additionally, a ‍lack of effective ‌measures to deter illegal crossings and loopholes in the legal system regarding asylum claims have also been cited as factors contributing to the problem.

Efforts to address this issue have been a⁤ center ‍of ⁤political debate for several years. Former President Trump’s administration implemented various measures, including the construction⁤ of a⁢ border wall, to tighten border security⁣ and deter ⁣illegal crossings. However, ⁤critics‍ argue that these measures may not be effective in addressing the root causes of migration and may further complicate the situation.

The ⁢Biden administration has taken‍ steps to reverse many of the immigration policies implemented⁣ by the previous administration.‍ These include halting construction of the border wall and ending the “Remain in Mexico” policy, which required asylum seekers to wait in Mexico while their cases were being processed. However, critics argue that these policy changes and the perceived shift in rhetoric have ⁣created a perception‌ of leniency, leading⁤ to an increase in illegal ‍crossings.

Addressing the issue ⁣of illegal ⁢migration requires a comprehensive and multifaceted approach. It involves improving border security, increasing resources for immigration agencies, addressing the root ⁣causes of migration in countries of origin, and reforming the legal immigration system to expedite ⁣legitimate asylum claims while ensuring national security remains a top priority.

Moreover,‍ international cooperation and⁤ collaboration⁣ are crucial in addressing this issue. ⁢Working with countries in Central America to improve security, promote economic development, and⁤ tackle the underlying factors that drive migration can help reduce the flow of illegal migrants at the southern border.

Overall, the record number ‍of illegal migrants ⁤evading law enforcement at the southern‍ border reflects the urgent need for a comprehensive and strategic approach to border ⁤security and immigration. It is a complex issue that ⁣requires careful consideration of humanitarian concerns, ‌national⁤ security, and⁢ the well-being of American ⁣communities. As policymakers work towards finding effective solutions, prioritizing collaboration and finding common ground ⁣will be essential in preventing further escalation of the crisis and ensuring a secure and prosperous nation for all.
