Op-Ed: Drunk TX RINO Accused of Illegally Targeting Trump’s Lawyer in Impeachment.

Illegal Impeachment: Texas House Speaker’s Lieutenants Plan to Remove Attorney General Ken Paxton from Office

The political drama in Texas continues to unfold as Texas House Speaker Dade Phelan’s lieutenants announce plans to illegally impeach Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton. This comes just days after Paxton demanded Phelan’s resignation for being drunk on the job.

General Investigating Committee Chairman Andrew Murr filed 20 articles of impeachment against Paxton on Thursday, with charges dating as far back as 2002. Elected attorney general in 2014, Paxton has been an outspoken conservative, often leading coalitions of state attorneys general against the Obama and Biden administrations, defending Texas’ pro-life and pro-family laws, and supporting the policies of President Donald Trump.

Paxton’s unwavering support for Trump has earned him the former president’s endorsement in his recent re-election campaign, but Trump doesn’t hold Phelan in high regard. In fact, he has criticized Phelan’s property tax relief plan and called him “California Dade.”

Phelan’s decision to impeach Paxton is an escalation of the war he has been waging against Texas conservatives since winning the gavel with the backing of Democrats in 2021. He has blocked a Republican-led vote on a rules proposal to block him from appointing Democrats to chair House committees and has even appointed eight of them to powerful committee chairmanships.

Phelan has also sided with Democrats to kill border security legislation and supported numerous attacks on the Republican Party of Texas. He has thwarted efforts to pass school choice, stopped a bill to prevent Chinese nationals from buying land in Texas, weakened ESG reform efforts, and watered down a DEI bill to ensure left-wing radicals on college campuses keep their jobs.

Now, Phelan is taking his war on conservatives to an even greater level by launching an illegal impeachment of Paxton. Texas law states that “an officer in this state may not be removed from office for an act the officer may have committed before the officer’s election to office.”

State Rep. Steve Toth called the impeachment proceedings an “illegal act” in a Facebook Live video on Thursday afternoon, quoting from the code.

Illegal Impeachment Effort Against Texas Attorney General Paxton

A recent report by The Western Journal highlights an illegal impeachment effort against Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton by Texas House Speaker Dade Phelan and his allies. According to the report, Phelan and his supporters plan to move forward with the impeachment proceedings against Paxton, despite the law.

“Regardless of the law, Phelan and his allies intend to go ahead with the impeachment proceedings against Paxton with the support of ‘all 64 Democrats and a few Republicans.'”

If Phelan’s illegal impeachment effort succeeds in the House, Paxton will be temporarily removed from office until a trial can be conducted by the Texas Senate. However, it would require a two-thirds vote of Texas senators to remove Paxton from office.

What’s Next?

It remains to be seen how this situation will unfold, but it is clear that there is a political battle brewing in Texas. Stay tuned for updates on this developing story.
