One dead after Iran attacks two tankers in Strait of Hormuz, UAE says

The United Arab Emirates‘s Defense Ministry said Iran attacked two tankers in the Strait of Hormuz in retaliation for U.S. strikes on Iran, killing one mariner and wounding at least eight others.
The ministry said Iran launched two cruise missiles at the tankers Mombasa and Al Bahiyah, setting both vessels ablaze. The fires were later extinguished.

The attack killed one Indian national and wounded six other Indians and two Ukrainians, according to the Emirati Defense Ministry. The UAE condemned the strikes and warned it has the right to respond.
“The UAE reserves its full right to respond to this escalation and to take all necessary measures to protect its territory, its citizens and residents,” the ministry said in a statement.
Iran also launched a renewed attack against Bahrain early Tuesday morning as Tehran continued retaliating for the latest round of U.S. airstrikes. Bahrain activated its missile warning sirens and urged residents to seek shelter. There were no immediate reports of damage or casualties.
The attacks came after U.S. Central Command announced that U.S. forces launched another round of strikes against Iran.
“These strikes will continue imposing a heavy cost on Iranian forces and degrade their ability to attack innocent civilians and commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz,” CENTCOM said in a statement posted on X.

President Donald Trump also announced a shift in U.S. policy, saying the administration would seek reimbursement for protecting commercial shipping through the strategically important waterway. The comments marked a reversal from previous U.S. policy, which maintained that no nation should impose a tax, toll, or fee on an international waterway.
“We’re protecting a very rich portion of the world,” Trump said. “We’re spending money. And so, what we’ve done is, we are going to be reimbursed for protection.”
