Ohio Senate race set with Sherrod Brown vs. Jon Husted
Sen. Jon Husted (R-OH) will face Democrat Sherrod Brown in November in a special election for the Ohio Senate seat left open after JD Vance became vice president.Brown, previously a three-term senator, was projected by the Associated press to win the Democratic nomination and had little to no opposition. Husted, appointed to the seat by Gov. Mike DeWine, won the GOP primary unopposed, and the general election will determine who holds the seat until 2028-when a full term election will be required. Sen. Jon Husted (R-OH) will face Democrat Sherrod Brown in November after Tuesday’s primary election results as part of a special election for the seat formerly held by now-Vice President JD Vance.
Brown, a former three-term senator who was ousted in 2024 by now-Sen. Bernie Moreno (R-OH), was projected by the Associated Press to win the Democratic nomination in a race where he faced virtually no resistance.

A hand-picked recruit of Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY), Brown will take on Husted, the former Ohio lieutenant governor appointed to the seat by Gov. Mike DeWine (R-OH), in the midterm elections. Husted was unopposed in the GOP primary.
The Ohio race is one of several GOP-leaning states crucial to Democratic efforts to retake the upper chamber that Republicans control 53-47.
The winner will hold the seat until 2028, when they will have to run for a full term.
