Former Secretary of Defense Robert Gates: Extreme Political Polarization is the Greatest Threat to the U.S.

During an interview on CBS’s “Face The Nation” with host Margaret Brennan, former Secretary of Defense Robert Gates expressed his concern about the extreme political polarization in the United States. Gates believes that this polarization is the greatest threat to the country.

The Danger of Polarization

Gates made these remarks after discussing the debt ceiling and the struggle in Washington, D.C. for leaders on both sides of the aisle to work together to resolve issues. He stated that while polarization has always existed in America, the current level of meanness and lack of civility among politicians is something new and pervasive in Congress.
