NYPD told to dress in full uniform as officers prepare for possible Trump indictment

All NYPD officers were instructed to wear their full uniforms starting at 7 a.m. on Tuesday in anticipation of possible civil unrest ahead of the potential indictment of former President Donald Trump.

The NYPD also instructed detectives who typically dress in plain clothes to wear their full uniforms. Additionally, NYPD officers have put up barricades around the criminal court building in lower Manhattan and have mobilized hundreds of riot police officers.

The mayor of New York City, Eric Adams, stated that the NYPD is monitoring comments on social media and performing their usual duty of ensuring there are no inappropriate actions in the city.

New York Police Officers move barricades near the courthouse ahead of former President Donald Trump’s anticipated indictment on Monday, March 20, 2023, in New York.

Police officials along with the Secret Service, court officers and other security officials are reportedly holding Zoom meetings in anticipation of the possible indictment. Intelligence sources have noticed an uptick in violent online rhetoric on social media from potential domestic violence extremists, but it is unclear how big of a protest there will be following the events of January 6, 2021 at the Capitol, which led to over 1,000 arrests.

The Port Authority has also been warned of the possibility of car caravans that could disrupt rush-hour traffic on bridges and tunnels. The NYPD officers will be monitoring if there is a surge in flights coming to New York City and will be increasing security at bus and train terminals.

The tension over the possible indictment has peaked this week as reports reveal that New York law enforcement is gearing up for a potential indictment against Trump. If the indictment is issued, it would be the first indictment ever issued against a former president. Trump has urged his supporters to protest in downtown New York if he is arrested, stating on Saturday that he expects to be indicted on Tuesday. However, it is unclear why he thinks he will be arrested on this specific date. If he is arrested, his arraignment is likely to occur next week, according to sources from Fox News.
