Officials said officers were responding to a gunfight between rival gangs that initially sparked from a fatal shooting, which led to a car crash. It’s unclear at this time if the officer’s shooting and the fatal car shooting are linked.
Both the officer and suspect were taken to a local hospital in stable condition. Meanwhile, a gun was recovered at the scene. Police confirmed the suspect had numerous prior arrests and investigation is underway.
