The Manhattan district attorney’s office said that two men accused of assaulting a Jewish victim will be spending very little time in prison for their part in the anti-Semitic hate crimes. Washington Free Beacon This week.

Manhattan’s top prosecutor, Alvin Bragg (D.), offered Waseem Awawdeh and Faisal Elezzi—two of four men charged with violently beating and pepper-spraying a Jewish man in 2021—reduced sentences as part of the plea deals, which will see Awawdeh spend six months in jail and Elezzi entering an intensive treatment program, according to the district attorney’s office. They allegedly conspired to attack Joseph Borgen as he walked towards a pro Israel demonstration.

Jewish advocates are angry at the light sentences, saying it is unacceptable that New York City authorities offer men plea bargains as violence against Jews rises to its highest level in history. New York City has been the epicenter of anti-Semitic violence. In 2022, there were 263 incidents, which is an average of 1 per 33 hours. according To the Times of Israel. These numbers show a sharp rise in 2021 and 2020 respectively.

Jewish advocates claimed that Awawdeh’s plea agreement for six months imprisonment is especially offensive because of a claim he reportedly made in jail to his prisoners: “If I could do it again, I would do it again.”

Dov Hikind (D.), a former New York State Assemblyman and founder of Americans Against Anti-Semitism an advocacy group, stated that Bragg was a “strange” person. “is all about a perversion of justice. He has more pity, more concern for the perpetrators than the victims.”

Hikind, a Jewish activist who works to mobilize the community against anti-Semitic hate crime, stated that what is happening in New York City is of concern to Jews. “just beyond comprehension.” He claimed that in November last year, there were three-times as many attacks against Jews than on any other ethnic group.

Americans Against Anti-Semitism held a Wednesday demonstration outside Brooklyn’s criminal justice facility.
