NYC man threatens to jump from high-rise window
On Wednesday, March 22, 2023, the FBI tried to arrest a 35-year-old suspect named Ian Mitchell on the 31st floor of a midtown Manhattan skyscraper. Mitchell is wanted in connection with a financial fraud investigation. During the arrest, Mitchell allegedly broke a window, climbed out onto the ledge, and threatened to jump to his death. Emergency services attempted to negotiate with him, but an NYPD Emergency Services Unit officer eventually slipped inside the residence through the broken window and ended the standoff with Mitchell.
Mitchell had previously posed as the scion of a wealthy Jamaican family back in 2015. He is also accused of performing scams through a multi-million dollar hedge fund called INC Capital, promising investors that they would see significant returns. Court documents showed a pair of open grand larceny cases and a bench warrant for Mitchell’s arrest.
Guidepost Daily reported on the incident, noting that the suspect was “barricaded” and threatening to jump. A number of emergency response teams, including the FBI, were on-site. The FBI previously attempted to execute a search warrant on Wednesday morning, leading to the confrontation with Mitchell.
