NYC GOP backs Michael Henry for attorney general against James

The chairs from all five boroughs have shown unified support for Henry, who was the Republican nominee in 2022 but lost to James by about nine points. Staten Island GOP Chairman Michael Tannousis praised Henry for his law-and-order approach and criticized James for failing New Yorkers. Other borough GOP leaders also endorsed Henry, highlighting his commitment to integrity and not yielding to political pressures. The New York City GOP has backed Republican Michael Henry in his campaign against New York Attorney General Letitia James.

Chairs from the five boroughs collectively backed the state’s Republican nominee for attorney general in 2022, when he lost by around 9 points to James.

Staten Island GOP Chairman Michael Tannousis confirmed the endorsements to the Washington Examiner. “As an attorney and as a leader, he represents the kind of common-sense, law-and-order approach this city and state need. Letitia James has failed New Yorkers. Michael Henry will not,” he told the New York Post.

The backing of the five chairs, who represent three of the five largest counties in the state by population, signals that the party is prepping for Henry to be the nominee again.

“The office of the Attorney General is ‘The People’s Lawyer.’ Instead @TishJames uses this tax payer funded institution to fight her political opponents. I’m running to bring INTEGRITY and PUBLIC TRUST back to this office and put a stop to the corruption and weaponization,” Henry wrote in a post on X.

Brooklyn GOP Chairman Liam McCabe told the outlet that Henry “understands what New Yorkers are facing and will not bow to political pressure or partisan witch hunts.” Bronx GOP Chairman Mike Rendino, Queens GOP Chairman Tony Nunziato, and Manhattan GOP Chairwoman Andrea Catsimatidis also endorsed Henry.

Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY), who may run for governor in New York in 2026, also endorsed Henry. “I am proud to endorse Michael Henry to defeat Letitia James to put an end to the corrupt weaponization of her office and restore law and order in our state,” she wrote in an X post last year.

LETITIA JAMES HANDLED MORTGAGE AND BANK FRAUD CASES SIMILAR TO THE ONE SHE NOW FACES

James was recently indicted by the Trump administration on charges of fraud and making false statements. She has denied the allegations.

“This is nothing more than a continuation of the president’s desperate weaponization of our justice system,” James said in a statement.
