NRSC criticizes at-risk Senate Democrats over veterans’ gun rights.

The National Republican Senatorial Committee Targets Senate Democrats for Allegedly Infringing on Second Amendment Rights of Veterans

The National Republican Senatorial Committee has launched a new series of engaging ads, taking aim at vulnerable Senate Democrats who are accused of neglecting the Second Amendment rights of veterans. The targeted senators include Sherrod Brown (D-OH), Joe Manchin (D-WV), and Jon Tester (D-MT), who are being criticized⁣ for turning their⁣ backs on veterans⁣ in their respective states.

Joe Manchin: Turning His Back on West Virginia’s Veterans

“They‌ sacrificed protecting our freedoms, but Democrat Joe Manchin turned his back on West Virginia’s veterans. Manchin may ‍talk like ‍a Republican … but he votes like a liberal,” the ad targeting Manchin said.

“Joining Washington extremists to deny wounded veterans‌ their⁢ Second Amendment rights, limiting constitutional freedoms, pushing more government control, selling out West Virginia veterans. ‌Tell Joe Manchin: Stand‌ with our wounded warriors. Hands off our Second Amendment‌ rights,” the ad continued.

Sherrod Brown: Washington Changes People

The ad targeting Brown was nearly identical, highlighting how Washington changes people. “Washington changes people — just look ‌at Jon Tester. Tester promised to stand up for Montana veterans … but instead, he sold them out,” ⁤the ad against‌ Tester said.

All ⁣three ads criticize the senators for voting against a measure to overturn the Biden administration’s rule on pistol braces. This Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives rule requires firearms equipped with stabilizing braces to be registered with the government or face fines and potential jail time.

The Republicans argue that this rule infringes ‌on the‌ Second Amendment rights of disabled citizens who rely on ‌pistol braces. While the measure passed in the House of Representatives, it failed in the Senate with a 49-50 vote along party lines. Brown, Manchin, and Tester all voted against the ⁣measure.

The targeted Democrats are incumbents in generally Republican states, making them vulnerable seats for the ‌Democratic Party in the upcoming 2024 elections. Currently, the Democrats hold⁤ a slim⁤ 51-49 majority in the Senate, with three of the 51 being independents who ⁣caucus with the Democratic Party.

Both Brown and Tester have announced their intentions to run for⁤ reelection in 2024, while Manchin has yet to make a decision. Additionally,‍ Manchin ‌has not ‍ruled out the possibility of running for president, potentially on a third-party ticket. He has confidently stated, “If⁣ I get in a race, I’m gonna win.”
