Now, Illegal Aliens Are Even Dying At The U.S. Northern Border

The northern border of the United States has seen a tragic outcome of President Joe Biden’s Border Crisis as illegal aliens are now dying in their attempt to cross. According to The New York Times, eight people, including a small child, were found dead in the St. Lawrence River just recently. The group consisted of two families from Romania and Indian nationals that were trying to cross from Canada.

Unfortunately, this tragedy emphasizes how desperate people are and highlights the need for the United States and Canada to review their current immigration processes. Abram Benedict, the Grand Chief for the Mohawk Council of Akwesasne, stated, “It is sad that people want to find a better life and this is the tragedy that results.”

The Daily Wire recently reported that illegal immigration is burgeoning at the northern border. From October 1, 2022, to February 28, 2023, roughly 2,000 Mexican migrants illegally crossed the Swanton Sector — a 24,000-square-mile stretch of the border between Canada, New York, New Hampshire, and Vermont. This number is significantly higher than the 200 illegal crossings recorded during the same period last year.

Moreover, the southern border continues to be porous, with more than 2.7 million border crossings in the fiscal year 2022 alone, as per NBC News report. The trend has continued into fiscal year 2023 as well.

Although reform policies are necessary to solve this growing problem, they are unlikely to happen under the Biden administration. To stop this chaos, the government needs to make a definitive statement that illegal immigrants will face deportation if caught. Amnesty talks must be taken off the table as they will only encourage illegal aliens to enter the country with the dream of being granted citizenship. Additionally, those seeking asylum should await their cases’ verdicts in either Canada or Mexico. However, in reality, immigrants who request asylum often end up being released into the country’s interior. They attempted to cross the border with the knowing that under Biden’s administration, their chances of being allowed into the United States are high. As this system persists, the border crisis will continue to escalate, increasing the chances of unfortunate and deadly incidents such as those at the St. Lawrence River.
