Conservative event avoids discussing indictments with 2024 candidates, excluding Trump.

A Conservative Event in Georgia Focuses ‍on Policy Questions, Not Trump’s Indictments

A conservative event in Georgia recently brought together nearly⁤ all of the most prominent Republican 2024 presidential candidates,⁣ except for former president Donald Trump. However, the event organizers made it clear that they would not ⁤be⁣ asking ⁢the‌ candidates about Trump’s indictments or his ‍status as the GOP front-runner.

“One of my chief⁣ frustrations is the former president isn’t going to⁢ be‍ here,” said conservative radio host Erick Erickson, who introduced the annual event called ‌The Gathering.‌ “I don’t want to ask⁣ the candidates all day and tomorrow about him. ⁣And that seems to be the conversation in⁣ the media.”

Trump was recently indicted on 13 counts, including violation⁣ of the Racketeer‍ Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act, in relation to his‌ attempts to overturn ‍the 2020 presidential ⁤election ‍in Georgia. However, despite these legal ‍issues, ‍Trump⁢ remains the front-runner in‌ the GOP primary race.

Erickson explained that he wants to focus on policy questions during the event, ⁣rather than dwelling on Trump’s indictments. He highlighted that the crowd’s top question is about military preparedness, along ⁣with inquiries about the‌ economy‌ and‍ banking. Erickson believes ⁤that by asking candidates about their policies,‌ rather than about other people, valuable insights can be ⁣gained.

During⁤ an interview‍ with Senator Tim‍ Scott, Erickson expressed his satisfaction with discussing policy matters instead of Trump’s legal troubles. However, Governor Brian Kemp of Georgia, who is not a candidate, refrained from commenting on the recent grand jury indictment,⁣ as ⁢he ‍may be a ‌witness in the ongoing case.

Kemp did ‌predict that ⁤none of the cases Trump has been indicted⁣ in will go⁤ to ‌trial before the 2024 ‌presidential election. He⁣ suggested that Democrats are using these indictments as a distraction to divert attention from President Joe Biden.
