Hawaii’s Ban on Butterfly Knives Overturned

Hawaii’s long-standing ban on butterfly ‌knives, also ⁤known as ​balisongs, has finally been overturned. In⁣ a groundbreaking ​decision, a three-judge panel at the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals unanimously declared the restriction ‌unconstitutional.

Back in 1993, Hawaii first criminalized the carrying of butterfly knives, deeming ⁣them ‌a ​potential threat. However, the law didn’t stop there. Six years later, the ​Hawaii Legislature expanded the ban, making it a misdemeanor for anyone to manufacture, sell, transfer, transport, or even own these⁤ blades. The reasoning behind this decision ​was the perceived social problem associated‍ with these knives.
