NHL Backs off After Desantis’s Office Calls Out “Discriminatory” Job Fair
After Gov. Ron DeSantis’s office slammed the event as “discriminatory.”
The league will host the “Pathway to Hockey Summit” Event for job seekers on February 2nd in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The NHL All-Star Game will be played in Sunrise, Florida two days later.
The league posted a LinkedIn post, which was deleted one week ago, promoting the event, but stating that participation was limited to certain people.

In response to the event’s participation requirements, DeSantis’s press secretary Bryan Griffin released a scathing statement calling the event “discriminatory.”
The reply was:
Florida is against discrimination of any kind. We do not believe in the notion that discrimination should not be allowed if it is applied to a politically popular demographic or in a politically unpopular manner. We will combat all forms of discrimination in schools and workplaces.
DeSantis’s office then called for the NHL to “immediately remove and denounce the discriminatory prohibitions it has imposed on attendance to the 2023 ‘Pathway to Hockey’ summit.”
