Doctor Charged with Sexually Assaulting Male Patients
A shocking case has emerged in Newport Beach, Calif., where Dr. William Thompson IV, a specialist in LGBT healthcare, has been accused of sexually assaulting nine male patients during supposed medical examinations. The Orange County District Attorney’s Office made the announcement on Sept. 26.
Dr. Thompson, 56, from Huntington Beach, was charged on Sept. 21 with multiple felony counts, including sexual penetration through fraudulent representation, sexual battery by fraud, and forcible oral copulation. He is currently out on $100,000 bond and is set to be arraigned on Nov. 2 in Newport Beach.
The alleged assaults took place between 2016 and 2020, and Dr. Thompson was apprehended on Sept. 20 at his medical practice.
If convicted, he could face a maximum sentence of 30 years to life in prison, with an additional 25 years. This information was provided by the District Attorney’s Office.
It is worth noting that Dr. Thompson was already on probation for a drunk driving conviction on Oct. 12, 2021, as per court records. He had pleaded guilty to driving under the influence on March 12, 2021.
His attorney in the DUI case, Gary Polston, expressed unawareness of the sexual assault charges and clarified that he is not representing Dr. Thompson in this matter.

The alleged incidents span a period of over three years, between 2017 and 2020. The victims, who were reportedly all male and in their 20s and 30s, sought treatment from Dr. Thompson for various health issues related to their sexual orientation.
According to the Orange County District Attorney’s Office, the charges include multiple instances where Dr. Thompson allegedly performed unnecessary and invasive examinations while making inappropriate sexual remarks and engaging in non-consensual acts. The victims claimed that they were deceived by the doctor, who is a well-known figure in the LGBT community and had built a reputation of trust and expertise in caring for LGBT patients.
The authorities were alerted to the alleged misconduct by one of the victims, who had the courage to come forward and report the incidents. This prompted a thorough investigation by the police, resulting in additional victims being identified. The District Attorney’s Office is encouraging any other potential victims to come forward and seek justice.
Dr. Thompson’s arrest and subsequent charges have sent shockwaves through the local community, particularly among his former patients and those who trusted him with their healthcare needs. The allegations against him have not only undermined the trust of his patients but have also raised concerns about the vulnerability of individuals seeking specialized healthcare services.
The case serves as a grim reminder that even individuals in positions of authority and expertise can exploit their power for personal gain and commit heinous acts. It highlights the importance of identifying and addressing such misconduct promptly to protect vulnerable individuals from further harm.
The trial will shed light on the disturbing details of the alleged assaults and provide an opportunity for the victims to have their voices heard. It will also serve as a wake-up call for the medical community to review and strengthen protocols for patient safety and ensure ethical practices in providing care and treatment.
As the case unfolds, it will be crucial for the justice system to ensure a fair and impartial trial, allowing all the evidence to be presented and any potential witnesses to testify. The victims’ courage in coming forward should be commended, and their rights to justice and support must be protected.
Ultimately, it is essential for society to stand united against any form of sexual assault, recognizing the immense trauma it inflicts on survivors and working collectively to prevent future occurrences. Cases like these illustrate the urgent need for comprehensive training, strict regulations, and robust accountability measures within the medical field to safeguard patients against any form of abuse or misconduct.
