Dems Were Warned For Years About Noncitizens On Voter Rolls

Here’s a pro tip. Anytime a Democrat begins a sentence with, “Let me be clear,” that Democrat is mostly likely about to lie to you.

“Let me be clear: Donald Trump has zero credibility on the issue of election integrity,” New Jersey Gov. Mikie Sherrill said Tuesday during a press conference in which the faux moderate had to confess that some 6,600 noncitizens landed on the Garden State’s voter rolls in 2023 and 2024 — and about 400 went on to vote.

That level of cognitive dissonance is astounding even for a deep blue state governor.

“I am appalled by the reckless failures that allowed this to happen and the lack of transparency shown by those in charge at the time,” Sherrill, just six months into her first term, said in a statement. So who’s really to blame? Mikie says it’s President Donald Trump, whom she insists has spent the past decade crying wolf and peddling “bizarre conspiracy theories about fraud with no evidence,”

New Jersey’s registration “glitch” is just the latest in a growing record of noncitizens doing what Democrats and their accomplice media friends say rarely happens: registering and voting in U.S. elections. They hammered Trump for delivering Thursday’s nationwide address on election integrity, which ABC and NBC wouldn’t deign to air. The president warned of vulnerabilities in the U.S. election system and released declassified intelligence community documents to prove it.

No Harry Truman, Sherrill blamed system software for the “error” and pledged an investigation into the alarming failure. She said she’s also canning the vendor involved.

‘A Catastrophic Government Failure’

Local election officials and watchdogs have for years warned the Democrats who control New Jersey government that lax voting laws would lead to noncitizens popping up on the voter rolls. Still, the Associated Press carried water for a fellow Democrat traveler trying to hold on to a rapidly collapsing narrative.

“The revelation comes as President Donald Trump and other Republicans continue to assert that voting by noncitizens is rampant in U.S. elections, even though it’s rare and, when caught, can be punished as a felony that can lead to deportation,” useful idiot Geoff Mulvhill wrote in his coverage of the scandal.

When caught? Such crimes are rarely caught due to lack of interest by many election and law enforcement officers on the front and back ends of the system. Democrat policymakers have bent over backwards to be “inclusive” and “equitable” in voter rights legislation, at the expense of election security.

Former two-term Gov. Phil Murphy in 2018 signed into law a measure that automatically registers New Jerseyans to vote when they apply for an ID or a driver’s license. A year later, the Democrat signed into law a bill allowing illegal aliens to obtain a driver’s license. What could possibly go wrong?

“I have been warning Trenton Democrats since this was signed into law in 2019 that New Jersey needed stronger safeguards to protect the integrity of our elections,” state Sen. Kristin Corrado, a Republican ranking member of the Judiciary Committee and former county clerk, said in a statement.

Corrado said she sent six separate letters raising her concerns and introduced legislation “that would have provided a commonsense safeguard by preventing the MVC [Motor Vehicle Commission] from prompting non-citizens to register to vote.” Majority Democrats weren’t interested and ignored the warnings, the lawmaker said.

“Now we are learning that a catastrophic government failure allowed thousands of non-citizens to be registered to vote, and suddenly everyone is acting surprised,” Corrado.

‘A Tap Dance’

Sherrill threw Murphy under the bus, noting that the thousands of ineligible registrations and hundreds of noncitizen votes cast happened on Murphy’s watch. She wants everyone to know that as soon as she learned about the “glitch” she “immediately” ordered her chief legal counsel to open a probe into the matter.

“I also ordered the removal of any residents from our voter rolls who were erroneously added between June 2023 and June 2024,” the governor said in the press release.

What about 2025 and 2026? Do we know how many noncitizens are in the state’s voter database? How many of those individuals illegally voted in New Jersey elections, including her election in November? That’s not clear.

The New Jersey Republican Party warned months ago that their Election Integrity Task Force had uncovered hundreds of noncitizens on the state’s voter rolls, and the initial findings were “just the tip of the iceberg.” In May, the task force announced that it had documented at least 30 cases of noncitizens voting in elections.

“That announcement was dismissed by State Democrats as ‘fear-mongering,’ but recent findings now show that not only have thousands of non-citizens been added to our voter rolls, but approximately 400 non-citizens voted in our elections,” New Jersey GOP Chairwoman Christine Hanlon said in a statement released Monday.

“We knew better then, and we know better now,” Hanlon added. “Unfortunately, the governor chose to deflect blame for the state’s failings to President Trump rather than focusing on the issue at hand.”

Joe Labarbera, chairman of the Sussex County (N.J.) Republican Committee, believes the governor is angling to stave off a Department of Justice investigation.

“In the army we call that a tap dance. She spoke out of both sides of her mouth,”  Labarbera told The Federalist in a phone interview Monday evening.

The local GOP committee chairman said he wasn’t surprised by the revelations. He thinks the real number of noncitizens on the voting rolls is many times more than what is being reported.

New Jersey has refused to turn over its voter rolls to federal Homeland Security officials for cross-checking “for improper registrations,” one of more than 20 states the DOJ has sued.

‘Not Random Errors’

The White House on Tuesday noted what Sherrill would not: that “every illegal ballot dilutes the voice of a lawful American citizen and undermines election integrity.”

“These incidents are not random errors; they are the predictable result of Democrat policies that refuse to verify citizenship,” the White House said in a statement.

New Jersey is now Exhibit A for why the SAVE America Act is so critical to election integrity. The legislation would require documentary proof of citizenship to register to vote in federal elections and photo ID to cast a ballot. Democrats have blocked the bill from advancing in the Senate, and Senate Republican leaders have apparently conceded defeat without much of a fight.

“The American people demand secure elections. Congress must pass the SAVE America Act without delay,” the White House said in the statement.

To be clear, the Democrat governor said she believes “the integrity of our elections is fundamental to our democracy.” She also said she doesn’t think handing out driver’s licenses to illegal immigrants is a threat to election integrity. Sherrill’s integrity is understandably being called into question.
