According to a new report, comedian Bob Saget told crew backstage before his last concert that he felt ill. That information comes from audio of interviews conducted by Orange County Sheriff’s Office that include one with showrunner Rosalie Cocci, who told investigators that Saget had been complaining about his health before the performance.

A transcript from the Daily Mail of the interview says Cocci stated:

He said he had long term Covid, and it was taking his body a long time to get over it. … He said that his hearing had been off and that was the case that night. He was asking the sound guys to turn everything up. And that he had been sick the night before – his hearing was off, and he had a sore throat. He was happy he had lozenges for the stage. … I did hear him say, “I don’t feel good but I’m ready to do the show. This is what I do this for.” … He seemed to be talking himself up.

Cocci continued by saying of Saget’s performance, which lasted two hours, “He seemed okay. He was cracking jokes. He wasn’t sweating; he didn’t miss a beat; nothing slurred…He came out very energetic.”

Richard Stanford, the production coordinator for St. Augustine, Florida, “recalled that the only items on Saget’s rider were diet coke, regular coke and diet sugar free Red Bull. Sandwiches, which had been on the list, were cut last minute,” the Daily Mail noted.

Valet Orlando Nunez, one of the last people to see Saget alive, said that when Saget returned to the Ritz-Carlton he was eager to get home. He explained, “He said his family was sick and the next morning he planned to fly home to see them.”

Last week, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office released new details in a report about Saget’s death. The report delineated the conclusions Chief Medical Examiner Joshua Stephany’s, M.D., autopsy of Saget.

“[Stephany] explained that the amount of force necessary to cause the fracture, coupled with the fact that the skin on the back of the head was still intact, led him to believe that the injury was most likely caused by ‘something hard, covered by something soft,’ and he gave, as an example, a fall onto a carpeted floor,” the report stated. “The headboard of the bed was lightly padded and set slightly out from the wall. These are listed here as possible mechanisms of injury, but nothing was located in the room that allows for a definitive conclusion.”

Fox 35 Orlando reported, “Officials say they went back to the hotel room where Saget was staying at the time of his death to reexamine it, trying to find clues as to what he may have hit his head on. The report states that they ruled out countertops, nightstands, tables and other hard furniture because they all had sharp, defined edges that did not match his injuries. They did note, however, that the entire room was carpeted.”
