NH Gov. Sununu won’t run for president in 2024.

New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu Won’t Seek Republican Nomination for President in 2024

“We’ve taken the last six months to really kind of look at things, where everything is. And I’ve made the decision not to run for president on the Republican ticket in 2024,” Sununu said during a June 5 interview.

Despite speculation, New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu has announced that he will not be seeking the Republican nomination for president in 2024. In a recent interview, Sununu stated that he believes the Republican Party needs to focus on their core values of limited government, local control, and individual responsibility.

Expanding GOP Field

Sununu’s decision was partly influenced by the expanding GOP field, with at least three more Republican candidates expected to join the race this week, including North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum. Sununu believes that every candidate needs to understand the responsibility of getting out quickly if their campaign is not working. He stated that candidates whose campaigns aren’t taking off need to leave the crowded field by “Christmas at the latest.”

Concerns for the Republican Party

Sununu is concerned that someone will win the Republican nomination with only 35 percent voter support, and the majority of the party won’t want to back them. He believes that this is not where the party should be and that candidates who don’t have a solid chance of winning should not be in the race to “audition” for a position in the upcoming administration’s cabinet or as another candidate’s running mate.

On Trump’s Chances

Sununu was clear that he believes Donald Trump has no chance of winning in 2024. He stated that Trump’s message costs Republican parties dearly across the country and that his messaging doesn’t translate well. Sununu believes that if a Republican candidate can’t win Georgia in November 2024, they have no shot, and Trump has proven that.

Conclusion

While Sununu won’t be seeking the Republican nomination for president in 2024, he remains committed to the party’s core values and believes that the party needs to focus on these values to succeed in the future.
