National Fraternal Order of Police issues ‘strong praise’ for ‘One Big Beautiful Bill Act’ – Washington Examiner

The National Fraternal Order of Police has expressed strong support for President Donald Trump’s “One Big Beautiful Bill act.” Patrick yoes, the national president of the organization, praised the legislation for its proposal to eliminate federal income taxes on overtime earnings, which significantly benefit police officers who ofen work additional hours. This provision aligns with Trump’s earlier campaign promise to support law enforcement and alleviate financial pressures on officers.

Yoes highlighted that the current cap on State and Local Tax (SALT) deductions adversely affects law enforcement officers, as many are required to live close to their jurisdictions. He emphasized that eliminating these financial burdens could improve the quality of life for officers and help local budgets, which are facing challenges due to rising costs.

The bill, which aims to provide tax cuts, reduce the deficit, and enhance border security, narrowly passed the House and is now awaiting a vote in the Senate. The Trump administration has labeled it a historic opportunity to fund key elements of Trump’s political agenda.

National Fraternal Order of Police issues ‘strong praise’ for ‘One Big Beautiful Bill Act’

The National Fraternal Order of Police released a statement expressing its support for President Donald Trump’s “One Big Beautiful Bill Act.”

Patrick Yoes, national president of the Fraternal Order of Police, applauded the proposed legislation, specifically highlighting the commitment to eliminate taxes on earned income while working overtime.

“The ‘One Big Beautiful Bill Act’ is more than legislation,” said Yoes. “It is a promise kept to the public safety officers across the country and a bold step toward an economy that respects, rewards, and uplifts the people who keep it safe.”

Income from overtime is a significant source of income for police officers, given their penchant for working extra time beyond scheduled shifts. Removing income tax obligations on earnings during this extra period would be a sizable

Trump first suggested the idea on the campaign trail in 2024, while running for president. Yoes noted as much in his issued statement of support.

“President Trump first proposed the elimination of Federal income taxes on overtime while still a candidate, and we are very pleased that a similar provision is included in the ‘One Big, Beautiful Bill Act,’” Yoes said.

The FOP chief explained why including this provision meant so much to police officers and was considered a sign of how much Trump values those in law enforcement.

“The current cap on SALT deductions uniquely and unfairly penalizes law enforcement officers, who often are required to live within a certain distance of the jurisdictions they serve—removing a valuable mechanism that allowed for a reduction in their cost of living,” Yoes said. “The SALT deduction is also a valuable way of supporting local budgets as law enforcement agencies are facing an array of financial challenges associated with inflated costs of equipment, vehicles, and personnel especially with respect to the ongoing recruitment and retention crisis.”

“These are critical provisions to ensure those in the law enforcement profession have a better quality of life,” he added. “We appreciate that President Trump is always fighting for our nation’s law enforcement officers.”

PERMANENT LOW RATES WOULD GIVE GOP EDGE IN TAX WARS

Meanwhile, in a statement released by the White House on Thursday, the Trump administration continued encouraging support for the “big, beautiful bill,” describing it as a “historic opportunity” to provide funding for much of President Donald Trump’s political platform.

After several weeks of debate, the “big, beautiful bill” was narrowly approved in the House on May 22 with a vote of 215 to 214. The legislation is currently in the Senate, awaiting a vote. The White House claimed that approving the bill would secure “tax cuts, deficit reduction, and border security.”
