Tony Stewart criticizes NASCAR drivers for being weak in current races.

Tony Stewart Calls Out Today’s NASCAR Drivers for Lack of Confrontation

Three-time NASCAR Cup Series champion Tony Stewart recently spoke out about the lack of confrontation among today’s drivers in the social media era. Recent crashes on the tracks have led to budding feuds between drivers, with veteran Kyle Busch even commenting on the lack of respect between drivers these days. Stewart had some strong words to say about the matter, calling today’s drivers “vanilla and wimpy” for not confronting each other at the track and instead waiting to “beat on each other on Twitter where nobody has to face anybody.”

The Proper Way to Handle Feuds

While arguments have gotten physical on tracks in the past, Stewart believes there is a proper way to handle feuds. He reminisced about the days when drivers would come up to each other in the lounge or motor homes after practice or a race to talk things out face-to-face. According to Stewart, drivers like Dale Earnhardt Sr. and Jeff Gordon showed him the ropes during his full-time driving days, and he followed suit. However, that line of respect and proper etiquette has been lost as the sport has modernized with the rest of the world.

Learning from Mistakes

Stewart also talked about how drivers used to handle mistakes on the track. “They turned you around and backed you in the fence, and when you’re sitting there, sliding down the racetrack or stopped … you have that time to go, ‘I think I made a mistake,’ and you had to figure it out, but that’s how you learn,” he said.

Stewart is currently a Fox Sports NASCAR analyst while also operating racetracks. He also owns Stewart-Haas Racing with Gene Haas as the group’s co-owner, with drivers like Kevin Harvick and Chase Briscoe racing under the team.
