Elon Musk sported a black eye, which he blamed on his son X, at a Friday press conference as he departed from the Trump administration. Musk said he told his son to hit him as hard as he could.

President Donald Trump praised Musk’s work as head of the Department of Government Efficiency during the press conference. One thing that drew the press’s attention was Musk’s appearance — the black eye on the right side of his face. When asked about it, Musk offered a humorous explanation.

“I was just horsing around with little X, and I said, ‘Go ahead and punch me in the face.’ And he did, and it turns out a five-year-old punching you in the face actually is,” Musk said before being cut off by a surprised Trump.

“That was X that did that?” Trump asked.

Musk then laughed and replied, “Yes,” and Trump quipped, “X could do it, if you knew X.”

Musk faced other uncomfortable questions at the press conference, including one from Fox News reporter Peter Doocy, who began to ask Musk about a Friday New York Times report alleging Musk’s extensive drug use while campaigning for Trump in 2024.

“Is that the same publication that got a Pulitzer prize for false reporting on Russiagate? I think it is!” Musk said, looking at Trump, who agreed.

Trump added, “I think a judge just ruled against the New York Times for their lies about the Russiagate hoax, and they might have to give back that Pulitzer Prize.”

“That New York Times?” Musk ended, “Let’s move on.”

Musk wielded immense power as head of DOGE, purging the federal government of bureaucrats his team deemed part of a bloated system. Despite extensive cuts, he left the position expressing disappointment, feeling that government spending is still too extensive.
