Social media influencer and​ transgender activist Dylan Mulvaney made a lighthearted comment about the boycott affecting Bud Light during an appearance at an awards show​ on Sunday⁤ night.

Mulvaney, a transgender woman who was⁢ announced as the breakout⁢ creator of 2023 at the Streamy ​Awards, took the stage to accept the award dedicated to online content creators.

Celebrating with a Beer

During Mulvaney’s acceptance speech, the influencer playfully mentioned grabbing a beer to ⁢celebrate, referencing the ​partnership with Bud Light earlier this year.

“I just love you all so much — thank you, thank you, thank you!” Mulvaney exclaimed, receiving applause from ⁣the audience. “I’m ​going to go have a ​beer, and I love you!”

Advocating for Trans Rights

In addition to the light-hearted moment, Mulvaney also ⁢addressed the issue of transphobia and hate, urging the audience to support transgender individuals publicly and proudly.

The partnership between Mulvaney and Bud Light ⁤occurred in late March, when the beer‌ company⁤ presented the influencer with a ‌commemorative can to mark the one-year‌ anniversary of Mulvaney’s transition.

Backlash and Financial ⁣Impact

Following the partnership, Bud Light and its parent‍ company, Anheuser-Busch, faced significant​ backlash from consumers. The heir of Anheuser-Busch even claimed that⁤ his ancestors “would have rolled over in their graves.” As⁣ a result, the company reported a loss of nearly $400 million in the second quarter.

As a response, Anheuser-Busch recently announced the sale of eight of⁢ its labels to Tilray Brands, a cannabis company ‍based in New York City. This acquisition will elevate Tilray Brands to the fifth-largest craft beer business ⁣in the United States.

Mockery and Music

Country singer ​John Rich joined in ⁢on the​ Bud Light controversy by releasing a​ music video for his ⁢song ‌”I’m Offended.” The video humorously portrays a man drinking a can of “sissy⁤ beer” in a bar before a woman takes ​it away and replaces it ⁤with a different beer.
