Most GOP voters prioritize presidential candidate’s policy over ability to beat Biden: Poll

Most Republican Voters indicated that they would prefer a candidate who shared their views on major topics to a candidate who could be defeated by President Joe Biden In the 2024 Presidency election

CNN has a new look Poll From 1,045 Republicans and Republican leaning independents, 59% favored a candidate that shared their views over 41% who favored a candidate’s ability defeat Biden.

These numbers are not in line with Democratic voters who thought that defeating Donald Trump was a priority, rather than agreeing to major policy matters by a majority of plurality in polls between March 2019-March 2020.

A lack of confidence in the country’s future was also expressed by those polled. Only 30% of respondents said the country’s best days were ahead of them. In stark contrast to Republican sentiments four years ago, the vast majority of respondents, 70%, think that the country is past its best days.

According to a September 2019 poll, 77% of GOP respondents felt the country had its best days ahead of it, while only 18% said it had its worst days behind it.

According to the poll, Trump is leading Gov. Ron DeSantis (Republican-FL), 40%-36%. Former Gov. Nikki Haley, former Vice President Mike Pence and Ron DeSantis (R-FL), each got 6%. DeSantis was the top choice of voters when asked which would be their second choice. Trump came in at 20%. Pence followed with 17%. There were no other candidates who received double digits.

Trump is losing ground in some polls, but DeSantis and Trump remain ahead of most of the field of candidates in all polls. Recent polls show DeSantis leading Trump at some primaries, including those in Florida and California.

Trump announced his candidacy for the White House in November 2022.
