More Republicans Rumored to Jump Into 2024 Presidential Race

The pool of candidates for the 2024 GOP nomination might begin to swell up over the next month, meaning that former President Donald Trump will have to fight for his party’s nomination after all in order to face off against Joe Biden in the general election.

Although many names have been included, such as former Ambassador Nikki Haley (Secretary Mike Pompeo), Vice President Mike Pence and current Governors Ron DeSantis or Glenn Youngkin, insiders now add South Carolina Senator Tim Scott to the list, along with Vivek Ramaswamy, a businessman.

Tim Scott’s Time to Shine?

According to Eliza Collins, congressional Reporter from the Wall Street JournalSenator Scott is “taking steps to run for president.”

Scott was a national sensation during the 2022 midterm elections, where he made several endorsements and campaign appearances for Republicans. Although it is not a common thing for a popular senator to do, it adds fuel to speculation as he will be traveling to Iowa in February, which will be the first state to vote in the Republican primaries.

According to ForbesScott “has made key hires for a super PAC in support of his political ambitions, Axios reported last week, and is set to hold a listening tour starting this week in celebration Black History Month in which he will promote a message of ‘hope and opportunity.’”

Senator Mike Rounds, South Dakota, has publicly supported a Scott presidential campaign.

“Having Tim get into the race would be very well-received by a number of members of the Senate, me included,” Sen. Rounds stated in Interview The Hill “He’s sharp. He’s got a business background. He’s got a great personal story.”

“There’s a number of us that have basically been encouraging him to at least consider that type of run,” He continued. “This is good news, we think, that he’s at least exploring the possibility.”

Who is Vivek Rajaswamy

Vivek Ramaswamy, a best-selling author (“Woke Inc.” “Nation of Victims”) and entrepreneur who has founded multiple companies in the healthcare sector. This 37-year-old businessman was born in India and migrated to Ohio with his parents. Ramaswamy, his father, is also a first generation American.

Daniel Lippman, PoliticoRamaswamy has been rumored to be considering a run for the presidency. He made an appearance in Iowa last week and seems to be getting more momentum towards an official announcement.

“He [Ramaswamy] is exploring a run for president,” Lippman wrote, “testing, among other things, whether his warnings about the dangers of ‘wokeism’ and socially-responsible investing — in business vernacular what’s called environmental, social and governance (ESG) investing — has political currency with Republican politicians, business leaders and, yes, farmers.”

Lippman says Ramaswamy wants to continue “pull off what Donald Trump did in 2016: enter the race with an entrepreneurial spirt, unorthodox ideas, and few expectations, and end up developing a major following that will carry him.”

Donald Trump: Everyone vs. All

The former President Donald Trump is the only official candidate for 2024. He has maintained a strong lead as the GOP’s public leader since his departure in 2021. Despite the uncertain election results and the imminent presence of the January 6 Capitol Riot, he has maintained the status of being the preferred candidate among Republicans to face President Joe Biden 2024.

While other candidates might try to fight for the nomination, the majority of polling suggests that this fight could come down to Trump or DeSantis if DeSantis enters the race.

According to Monmouth University’s latest poll Publiziert February 9, 2009 “While Trump has gained some ground over the past two months, he trails DeSantis in a head-to-head contest. At the same time, either candidate is preferred to other popular Republican officeholders, suggesting that the race is a two-person contest in most GOP voters’ minds right now.”

Other candidates than Trump (33%) or DeSantis (23%), who were mentioned in polls, were Mike Pence (2%), Nikkie Hayley (1%), Ted Cruz (31%), Rand Paul (1%), Mike Pompeo (1%).

“Trump and DeSantis are grabbing most of the media attention,” Patrick Murray, director of Monmouth University Polling Institute said this. “So it is not surprising that most Republican voters do not come up with any names other than these two.”
