Pence: DOJ’s Actions Under Trump and After Have Eroded Trust in the Law.
Former Vice President Mike Pence Speaks Out on Justice Department’s Impact on Public Confidence
In a recent interview, Mike Pence expressed concern over a “pattern” at the U.S. Department of Justice that has eroded Americans’ faith in equal treatment under the law. Pence, who served as Vice President alongside former President Donald Trump, discussed this issue during an appearance on NBC News’ “Meet The Press” with Chuck Todd.
Questioning the Appointment of Special Counsel
During the interview, Todd asked Pence for his opinion on Attorney General Merrick Garland’s decision to appoint Delaware U.S. Attorney David Weiss as special counsel in the Hunter Biden probe. Pence responded by acknowledging the importance of a special counsel in cases where the attorney general may have a potential conflict of interest. However, he also emphasized the need for Congress to continue its work in uncovering the truth.
Pence stated, “The American people have a right to know whether or not President Biden’s family or he himself benefited financially from foreign nationals while he served as vice president. These are facts that the American people deserve to uncover.” He expressed confidence in Special Counsel Weiss to carry out his duties impartially, while also highlighting the efforts of House Republicans such as Jim Jordan and Congressman Comer in pursuing the truth on behalf of the American people.
Politicization of the DOJ
Pence further pointed out instances where the Department of Justice had become politicized, citing the case of former FBI Director James Comey giving then-presidential candidate Hillary Clinton preferential treatment. He argued that such actions undermined public confidence in the justice system, as they demonstrated a lack of equal treatment under the law.
