Michael McCaul warns that China could takeover Taiwan ‘without a shot fired’

House Foreign Affairs Chairman Michael McCaul (R-TX) warned of a tact China could use to conquer Taiwan without having to use military force.

Military experts have expressed concern that 2024 could be crucial in the attempt to seize control of Taiwan, and McCaul emphasized that China will probably try to interfere with the political island’s’s forthcoming election.

According to McCaul, who spoke with NBC’s’s Meet the Press,” I think the upcoming elections in January are going to be very important because I do believe that China will try to influence this election and seize control of the island without a shot fired.”

Previous Taiwanese President Ma Ying-jeou served in that capacity from 2008 to 2016 before being succeeded by the original President Tsai Ing-wen. He recently left for a 12-day trip to China, where he expressed concern that” our administration continues to lead Taiwan to danger ,” according to Reuters. His club supports enhancing ties with China.

The two opposing parties are currently engaged in a political discussion. One group desires to speak with China. The celebration of President Tsai does not want to join China, McCaul continued.

The vote in Taiwan is scheduled for January 13, 2024.

Beijing has asserted reign over Taiwan for well over seven years and has urged other countries to follow its” One China” plan. Taiwan’s’s war, currency, and authority are all active. The vast majority of nations, including the US, do not formally recognise Chinese sovereignty.

Recently, McCaul led a nonpartisan group to Taiwan and reaffirmed American support for the island.

Regarding Taiwan’s’s military prowess, McCaul continued,” They’re’re not where they need to be.” ” We need to bring these weapons into Taiwan if we’re’re going to have deterrence for peace.”

Additionally, he connected Taiwan’s’s death to that of Ukraine as it battles a terrible Russian invasion on the field.

What happens in Taiwan and the Pacific will depend on what’s’s happening in Ukraine, he declared. ” I think a loss for Putin in Ukraine is the best deterrent to Chairman Xi.”

Recent disagreements within the Republican Party over aiding Ukraine have caused some scholars to question whether the GOP will support military assistance to Taiwan in the event of an intrusion. The significance of Taiwan to American regional interest was emphasized by McCaul.
