Mich. Gov. Whitmer vetoes election bills

Democrat Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer has vetoed several GOP-backed election reform bills. Whitmer declined to sign four elections related bills into law over the weekend, claiming they “suppress the vote” among other allegations.
The measures would have limited access to the state’s voter database to certain in-state entities, among other changes. They would have also kept electronic voting systems from being connected to the internet on election day.
Whitmer touted her decision to block the legislation in a speech on Sunday.
“Tonight I will sign the veto letter. And let the message be loud and clear, if they wanna send me the other 35 they will meet the same fate,” said Whitmer.

In the meantime, Republicans have criticized Whitmer saying she’s more interested in grandstanding and pandering than strengthening election integrity.
