Mexico City resumes Christmas festivities after 2-year lockdown

Mexico City resumed its Christmas festivities this year after an almost two-year long lockdown. This, as coronavirus fears gradually subside.
Christmas and New Year’s celebrations began in Mexico City’s central square last week. The events featured light shows and an amusement park, which saw thousands of people in attendance. Local artists were also performing Christmas songs as part of the festivities.
Mexico City residents said they’re delighted to be able to go out and enjoy Christmas holidays in public again.

“It feels great,” said resident, Hector Rodriguez. “After almost two years of a sort of confinement, it’s very gratifying to be able to enjoy the freedom that we Mexicans previously had. To live and coexist with a lot of people because this is how Mexicans are, we carry the party spirit within us.”
The Christmas Village in Mexico City is expected to be open until Dec. 31.
