Mexican President Urges American Hispanics Not to Support DeSantis’ White House Bid

“Don’t give one single vote to DeSantis,” says Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, accusing the Florida Governor of using illegal immigrants for his campaign.

At a recent news conference, López Obrador attempted to take credit for predicting DeSantis’ campaign announcement, claiming that he knew it was around the corner. However, it is not clear what the Mexican President was referring to.

DeSantis has been known to bus immigrants who are in the country illegally to so-called sanctuary states and cities, including Martha’s Vineyard, a liberal Massachusetts island. This has led to López Obrador urging Florida Hispanics not to support DeSantis’ White House bid.

The Mexican President, López Obrador, has criticized Republican governors Ron DeSantis and Greg Abbott for their stance on immigration. He urged Hispanics in Florida not to vote for DeSantis, who he claims persecutes migrants and does not respect them. However, DeSantis’ campaign’s Twitter account responded by sharing an article about the governor’s strong support from Hispanic voters in the November election, saying “Too late.”

López Obrador went on to say, “We have to be thinking about this regrettable phenomenon of necessary migration, used with political ends in the United States.” He criticized DeSantis and Abbott for their stance on immigration, saying they are politicking and militarizing the border. DeSantis told radio host Dana Loesch that he will complete the border wall started by former President Donald Trump if he enters the White House. He said, “If I’m president, we will, because we’ll declare a national emergency on day one, we’ll mobilize the military, we’ll mobilize resources as that emergency declaration would allow us to do, and we will not take no for an answer.”

DeSantis’ team revealed a bold strategy to use Trump’s winning tactics in the 2024 election. However, López Obrador has made it clear that he does not want DeSantis to win the election. The governor concluded, “But you’ve got to be willing to do that on day one. You’ve got to be disciplined about it. You got to be just relentless to make sure it gets done,” in an apparent shot at Trump, the current front-runner in the 2024 GOP presidential primary race.
