Melania Trump slams ‘threat to democracy’ rhetoric against husband – Washington Examiner
In a recent interview with Fox News, former First Lady Melania Trump expressed her views on the rhetoric surrounding her husband, former President Donald Trump, labeling it as a “threat to democracy” and describing it as “toxic.” She defended her husband’s reputation against critics who characterize him as a danger to democratic institutions, arguing that their accusations create a harmful atmosphere. Melania stated that such language and actions, including legal challenges aimed at her husband, pose a greater threat than any actions attributed to him. Although she generally prefers to remain out of the public eye, Melania has started to speak more openly in support of Donald Trump as the November election approaches.
Melania Trump says ‘threat to democracy’ rhetoric against her husband is ‘toxic’
Former first lady Melania Trump said that her husband’s critics represent a “threat to democracy” with their sharing of “toxic” language about him.
In an interview with Fox News’s The Five, Trump talked about her memoir, which was released on Tuesday. At one point in the interview, she hit back at allegations that her husband, former President Donald Trump, was a threat to democracy, saying that such rhetoric was the real threat.

“Of course, I do,” she responded when asked if she was concerned over the safety of her husband. “Yes, I do.”
“When they call him, ‘He’s a threat to democracy,’ let’s ask ourselves, who is really [the] threat to democracy? They are ongoing with the lawfare against the former president, as well as, you know, trying to get him off the voting ballots and trying to silence him,” she added. “So yes, of course, I was always afraid what can happen, and that they [continue] with that kind of language is just … it’s a toxic, toxic atmosphere.”
While largely preferring to stay out of the limelight, Melania Trump has been more public about her support for her husband ahead of the November election.
The former first lady has made similar comments about threats against her husband in other interviews around her book, such as during an interview with Fox News’s Hannity last week.
“I saw how they treated him, how the media was against him,” she said after host Sean Hannity recalled how she predicted how her husband would be treated. “I think they are afraid of his strength, and he was leading this country with peace through strength. So as soon he announced that he’s running for the presidency, everything really changed. And I saw it and I said, you know, this will not be very pleasant.”
“So I always said to him, ‘What is next?’ So it’s, in one way, you’re not surprised, and every event that had happened, I’m thinking, ‘What is next? What are they trying to do?’ And you always fear the worst, and then it happened,” she said, referring to the assassination attempts against her husband.
Melania Trump’s book, titled Melania, also drew headlines for revealing her abortion-rights access stance, something that wasn’t known previously.
