Kelly herself was previously fired from NBC for comments made about Halloween costumes and the defense of using tanning spray when depicting some characters. Kelly polled the panel Thursday to ask if there was suspicion regarding whether executives at MSNBC or NBC News were on the chopping block.
“I predict yes,” Welch responded, while Moynihan agreed.
The panel scoffed at NBC News Chairman Cesar Conde calling for the network’s newsrooms to be “cohesive and aligned,” suggesting it seemingly stoked the fears that those who are not aligned could expect to be ousted as well. Foster sarcastically called the strategy “real leadership” while Moynihan shook his head. Welch talked about how differently the magazine for which he writes is run.
“We don’t want everyone to be aligned because then suddenly you’re not going to be able to speak to everybody in your audience and —” Welch said.
“You’re going to get things wrong,” Kelly interjected.
“And you’re going to get things wrong, exactly,” Welch finished.

McDaniel’s total time with NBC News lasted four days. She sat for a 20-minute appearance on Meet the Press on Sunday. The network had agreed to a $300,000-a-year contract for two years.
