Meghan McCain Warns Democrats About Becoming Party That Believes Parents Shouldn’t ‘Have Any Say’ In What Kids Are Taught

Meghan McCain warned Democrats about becoming the “party” that believes parents shouldn’t “have any say” in what kids are being taught in school.

“The 2021 census saw a phenomenal growth in homeschooling. Up 5 million from 3.2 million,” the former co-host of “The View” tweeted Monday. “If Democrats want to be the party of parents don’t and shouldn’t get to have any say or control over what their children are being taught in school, your party is going the way of the whigs.” (RELATED: ‘I’m Just Going To Rip The Band-Aid Off’: Meghan McCain Announces She’s Leaving ‘The View’)

McCain’s post includes a clip from “Meet The Press” of New York Times writer and ‘1619 Project’ founder Nikole Hannah-Jone, saying she “doesn’t really understand this idea that parents should decide what’s being taught.”

The former Fox News host’s tweet appears to include a reference to information from the U.S. Census Bureau that found, from the spring 2019-20 school year to the fall of the 2020-21 school year, a large number of families decided homeschooling was the way for their school-age kids. The results were published in March of 2021. (RELATED: Megyn Kelly Says She Left ‘Son’s School’ After Boys Were Asked Weekly If They’re ‘Still Sure’ They Were Boys)

In the first part of the survey, April 23-May 5, 2020, a total of 5.4% of households in the U.S. were homeschooling. By the second phase of the survey, between September 3-October 12, 2020, 11% of households reported homeschooling their kids. That’s an increase of 5.6% and a doubling of households who were homeschooling compared to the prior year amid the pandemic.

The survey also found that parents of all races and ethnicities chose to homeschool their school-age kids. The biggest jump was in those who identified as Black or African American. Those who homeschooled went from 3.3% (April 23-May 5) to 16.1% in the fall (Sept. 30-Oct. 12).
