Meghan Markle Sent Simon Rex A ‘Thank You’ For Refusing $70K To Lie About Them Sleeping Together

Actor Simon Rex revealed a lot of truths during his recent interview with The Guardian, including discussing his regret over starting his career with pornographic films when he was 18. Royals fans, however, thought the most fascinating tidbit from the conversation had to do with Meghan Markle. Apparently, Rex was offered a ridiculous amount of money to lie about her and refused.

Back when Markle didn’t know Prince Harry, she was a B-list actress just trying to make it in Hollywood. She and Rex appeared together in 2005 on the short-lived UPN sitcom “Cuts.” Much later when the Duchess of Sussex was rich and famous, multiple UK-based tabloids apparently tried to convince the actor to lie about their relationship and say they slept together.

The 47-year-old former MTV VJ said he and Markle shared nothing beyond “one platonic lunch,” the Guardian reported.

Rex said turning down the $70,000 to lie and make it seem like he had sex with Markle was difficult yet necessary. “I was broke as f***! I really needed the money,” the actor told the publication. “But I’ll be on food stamps before I do that.”

He said Markle wrote him a thank you letter, which he still has framed in his house. “She said: ‘It’s nice to know there are still good people,’” Rex recalled.

Elsewhere in the interview, the actor talked about faking it until he made it in the extreme. Rex has been making headlines for his new movie “Red Rocket” about a a porn star (Rex) who returns to his hometown and begins a relationship with an adolescent girl (Suzanna Son). The critically-acclaimed film includes an excessive amount of male full frontal nudity.

The role earned him Best Male Lead Actor at the 2022 Independent Spirit Awards. During his acceptance speech, Rex recalled how his career was “in the toilet” before being cast. The actor is best known for his work on the “Scary Movie” franchise and for working as a model and MTV VJ back in the day.

Rex recalled how his decades-long career didn’t have a promising start. When he auditioned for the 1997 cult classic “Good Will Hunting,” the director told him bluntly how terrible he was.

“I go in and sit down with [director Gus Van Sant] and Matt Damon,” Rex said. “We’re doing a reading and then Gus stops me in the middle and says: ‘Simon, this is really bad, you’re not ready.’ Matt Damon is laughing and I’m embarrassed. Gus says: ‘But don’t worry, you have something. Trust me. Go to acting school.’”

Rex’s interview is full of incredible stories even beyond the surprising tidbits about Markle and “Good Will Hunting.” The actor said some of his wildest moments happened while hanging out with Charlie Sheen during his 2011 tour, “My Violent Torpedo of Truth.”

“That was a weird one, man. That was a f***ing circus,” Rex recalled. “[Sheen] was up on stage every night talking s***. Then a pro baseball player would come on and play catch with him, then I’d do a Dirt Nasty song. It was a s***show.”

The actor said he and Sheen were always traveling via private jets and getting VIP treatment.

“Charlie would tell me: ‘Order everything on the menu. Lobster, steak, whatever. Use the spa every day, get a facial, get a massage.’ I said: ‘I don’t wanna waste your money,’” Rex said. “He said: ‘Simon, I make more in one day of ‘Two and a Half Men’ reruns than you could possibly imagine. Spend all of it.’”
