Media portrays near-record-high January border incursions as positive for Biden
The ongoing invasion at the U.S.-Mexico border continues to rage — but that hasn’t stopped America’s regime-approved media from attempting to downplay its severity.
On Tuesday, Customs and Border Protection (CBP) released monthly statistics showing a nearly record-high number of apprehensions at the U.S. southern border for January. According to the agency, CBP officials apprehended 176,205 foreign nationals along the southwest border. While the figure represents a decrease from the record high of more than 300,000 encountered in December, last month’s totals are the highest number of January apprehensions since the 2000 fiscal year and are higher than any month under former President Trump’s administration.
More than 10 million illegal immigrants have poured over our open border since Joe Biden assumed the presidency in January 2021, according to the Washington Examiner.
Despite the nearly record-setting nature of last month’s totals, legacy media have predictably gone out of their way to mislead Americans about the severity of the Biden-facilitated border invasion. For example, while reporting on the January figures, The New York Times ran the headline, “Illegal Border Crossings Plummeted in January.” The article subhead says the decrease in last month’s arrests when compared to December’s numbers is “good news” for Biden but admitted it “doesn’t change the fact that the number of people crossing into the U.S. has reached record levels during his term.”
The Associated Press and Newsweek ran similarly titled articles, which read “Illegal border crossings from Mexico plunge after a record-high December, with fewer from Venezuela,” and “US Border Patrol Saw Significant Drop in Migrant Encounters in January,” respectively.
CBP’s January report was issued the same day the GOP-led House of Representatives impeached Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas over his role in facilitating the ongoing border invasion. The final vote was 214-213, with three Republican lawmakers joining Democrats in opposing the resolution. The Republican defectors were Colorado’s Ken Buck, Wisconsin’s Mike Gallagher, and California’s Tom McClintock.
Mayorkas is the second presidential cabinet official in U.S. history to be impeached.

How has the number of illegal border crossings changed in 2023 compared to the previous year?
Rd-setting 2023, the number of illegal border crossings has plunged after a record high in December. This provides some relief for the Biden administration, but it does not undermine the fact that the overall number of people crossing into the U.S. remains at a record level during his term.”
The headline and subhead of this New York Times article create a misleading narrative by focusing on the month-to-month decrease in apprehensions without providing the necessary context of the overall surge in illegal border crossings under President Biden’s watch. This kind of selective reporting downplays the severity of the ongoing border crisis and fails to inform the public accurately.
It is not just The New York Times that is guilty of downplaying the border crisis. Other mainstream media outlets have also followed suit. The Washington Post, for example, published an article with the headline “Biden Faces Republican Criticism Over Surge in Migrant Encounters at the Border.” While the headline acknowledges the surge in migrant encounters, it chooses to frame it as mere Republican criticism, downplaying the seriousness of the situation.
This consistent effort by the regime-approved media to downplay the severity of the border invasion raises important questions about their role as unbiased reporters of the news. The American public deserves objective and truthful reporting, especially on issues as crucial as national security and immigration.
The ongoing invasion at the U.S.-Mexico border is a serious crisis that demands attention and action. The border security and immigration policies of the Biden administration are failing, and it is time for the mainstream media to accurately report on the dire situation at hand. Downplaying the severity of the border crisis does a disservice to the American people and prevents meaningful discussions and solutions to this pressing issue.
It is essential for the media to provide unbiased and comprehensive coverage of all news, including the ongoing border crisis. The American people rely on the media for accurate information to form their opinions and make informed decisions. By downplaying the severity of the border invasion, the mainstream media is not only failing their journalistic duty but also undermining the democratic principles of transparency and accountability.
In conclusion, the ongoing invasion at the U.S.-Mexico border cannot be downplayed or ignored. It is a serious crisis that requires immediate attention and action. The regime-approved media’s attempts to downplay the severity of the border invasion are misleading and prevent the American public from fully understanding the extent of the problem. It is crucial for the media to report objectively and accurately on this issue, providing the necessary context and engaging in meaningful discussions to find effective solutions.
